Fractal Corporation

Fractal Corporation was a technology corporation that is considered to have laid the groundwork for the modern vrNet infrastructure. They reverse engineered the ancient Valerian deep space servers so that more of them could be built, effectively recovering a key piece of lost technology from the Blackout. They also boosted information transmission rates tenfold which made real-time offworld avatar projections possible. This did wonders for more human-like interactions across the galaxy possible.

In the early 1900s AB, disaster struck when the climate control systems of their homeworld Fractal malfunctioned. The entire planet plunged into an ice age as the entire surface became covered in permafrost, forcing Fractal Corporation to abandon it. It is still unknown what could have caused this although some speculate some sort of terror attack.

Unfortunately, despite minimal casualties, Fractal did not survive much longer afterward. Only a few decades later, they declared bakruptcy. Virtuoso absorbed whatever was left of them.

Despite their collapse, Fractal technology continues to be influential towards modern society. For many beginner virtuoarchaeologists, their artifacts on Fractal are far easier to obtain than Valerian ones. Fractal artifacts are only a few hundred years old, and ironically enough, the freezing of their homeworld kept a lot of their infrastructure and relics fairly intact.
