Mortimer Nex is a necromancer serving as a general in the army of Taranis. He is a human cyborg with the ability to take control of certain kinds of Rampants, commanding them to do his bidding.
Appearance
Mortimer is covered head to toe in bronze-colored robes. He wears a polygonal drama mask depicting a neutral expression with blank, black eyes. His right arm has been replaced with cybernetics, allowing him to perform his range of abilities. This is considered the standard attire for all Taranis necromancers.
Personality
Mortimer is fairly level-headed and relaxed, almost completely desensitized to the disturbing nature of his work. Unlike his superiors, he does not have an exotic background as he grew up within Taranis itself in a fairly ordinary life as a noble. Having survived various assassination attempts on himself and his family, he has developed the mentality to not rock the boat. While he doesn't share the same level of zeal in regards to Valerian mythologies, what he does know is loyalty and a steady job.
Skills and abilities
Mortimer Nex is a necromancer. He is specialized in raising synthetic life forms from a state of nonfunctionality, channeling his technokinesis through his cybernetic arm to reanimate them. To an extent, he can also do the same on human cadavers, but only if there is enough brain matter and a functioning spinal cord. While commanding other synthetic life forms is the most reliable in battle, the use of human corpses serves as a means of psychological warfare, especially if it is recently deceased associate of his enemies.
As a general of Taranis' army, he is also responsible for training other necromancers in various techniques to command an undead army. This gives him a broad level of tactical knowledge and awareness of the battlefield on a galactic level. Even after the Virtual Wars and the establishment of the truce, he still operates through proxies such as the Cult of Kronos.

- Phyliss Taranis - Mortimer is loyal to Phyliss and sees her as fit as the successor to the Valerian Empire.
- First Disciple - Mortimer dislikes him for his arrogance, but he is still smart enough to not get on his bad side.
