Free Souls

The Free Souls are a mercenary group of black hat hackers and vigilantes. They are infamous for being the ones reponsible for assassinating Lucian Virtuoso's father, Luthen Virtuoso. The Free Souls are also behind the development of many different forms of Rampants.

The Federation considers the Free Souls a designated terrorist organization. Their ringleader is on the top of the list of most wanted.

Overview

The Free Souls are an extremist anti-corporate organization, specifically standing against Virtuoso in whatever they can. They believe that humanity's dependence of their products will lead to the destruction of civilization. The Free Souls tend to attack Virtuoso vrNet servers with denial of service attacks as well as an assortment of Rampants. In some cases, they will also plant delivery vehicles with explosives to destroy whatever goods they are carrying, often with disregard to any life forms that may be aboard.

The Free Souls have an alarmingly strong presence on the vrNet where they actively seek out and recruit others, usually through harassment, intimidation and with anti-Virtuoso propaganda. While they are willing to work with bounty hunters, they usually prefer those who are sympathetic to their cause. Their main targets for recruitment are those who seem to be down on their luck and have very little to lose. They also have moles planted within the Federation in order to secure funding for their efforts.

Relations

• Virtuoso - Virtuoso is their main target of attack. They are openly hostile towards them.
• PHIA Phorce - While the Free Souls initially attempted to recruit the PHIA Phorce to their cause, they were turned down. Now, the Free Souls are hostile towards them.
• Serpent's Fang - While they are not direct allies, they have some mutual interests that align, leading to some instances of cooperation between the two.
